Strauss Elite Recalls Various Elite Candy Products
Products may be contaminated with Salmonella
Strauss Elite has recalled various Elite candy products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella because they were manufactured in a facility in which Salmonella was detected in the production line and in the liquid chocolate that is used for the production of the finished products. To date, no illnesses have been reported in association with the consumption of these products.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
