ROCKFORD, Ill., MARCH 20, 2019 – In the wake of extensive flooding in the Rockford area, Schnuck Markets, Inc. and the American Red Cross of Northwest Illinois today announced that Rockford-area Schnucks customers can support disaster relief efforts through the supermarket’s ‘Round up at the Register’ campaign. Beginning today and continuing through the weekend, Schnucks customers at all six Rockford-area Schnucks stores can round up their purchase to the nearest dollar, with 100% of donations going to the American Red Cross’ Disaster Relief Fund.

“Our stores have been a part of the Rockford community for more than 20 years, and in this time where the need is so great, we want our customers and neighbors to know that we are committed to supporting this community,” said Aaron Miller, Schnucks Rockford-area Division Manager.

The Red Cross is working alongside emergency management teams to assist those affected by flooding in Rockford and surrounding areas. With the Pecatonica and Rock River cresting, Red Cross volunteers are present at four shelters in both Machesney Park and Freeport, providing a warm, safe place to stay, and tending to the health and well-being of flood evacuees. Record-breaking flooding is currently plaguing six states across the country. More than 550 American Red Cross workers are helping those in hard-hit communities and have served more than 30,500 meals and snacks to those impacted.

“We are grateful to Schnucks and its customers for being willing to support our disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts by offering customers the ability to round up,” said Celena Roldán, Regional CEO of the Chicago & Northern Illinois Red Cross.

Rockford-area Schnucks customers can round up through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. The round up feature is not available at self-checkout lanes so customers who wish to donate should be sure to go through attended checkout lanes.
